Wiltshire & Grannis LLP (“W&G”) partner Mike Nilsson spoke at a panel today on television and the Internet.  The panel, part of a continuing legal education seminar hosted by the Federal Communications Bar Association, was entitled “Internet Delivery of Television: Over-The-Top and IP.” 

Participants on the panel discussed legal issues associated with the delivery of television programming via Internet Protocol, both over closed networks and over the public Internet.  Mr. Nilsson spoke specifically about copyright licensing issues, including the series of statutory copyright licenses applicable to some (but not all) forms of IP delivery.  He also spoke about retransmission consent rights held by over-the-air television broadcasters. 

Mr. Nilsson advises and represents a variety of media and communications companies before the Federal Communications Commission, the U.S. Congress, the Library of Congress Copyright Office, and international regulatory bodies, as well as in a wide range of commercial negotiations.  He has particular expertise on legal issues associated with the carriage of video content over digital broadband networks, including copyright issues, communications law and regulation, and contractual matters associated with such carriage.
