Steven A. Fredley is a partner at Wiltshire & Grannis LLP.  Mr. Fredley practices in the areas of white-collar criminal defense, complex civil litigation, and privacy and media-related matters.

Mr. Fredley has represented corporate officers and individuals in federal criminal investigations, including investigations related to international price-fixing cartels, violations of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, and financial crimes.  Mr. Fredley also has advised foreign clients on matters related to extradition.  Mr. Fredley recently represented a former independent security contractor indicted for manslaughter and attempted manslaughter stemming from a fire fight in Baghdad, Iraq.

Mr. Fredley has served as both defense and plaintiff’s counsel and has been involved in all aspects of litigation, from initial case assessment through trial.  Mr. Fredley has appeared before federal and state courts.  In addition, Mr. Fredley has participated in arbitration proceedings, including the arbitration of a claim for specific performance of a $36 million commercial contract.

Mr. Fredley has represented multi-national corporations in numerous federal and state class-action proceedings.  Mr. Fredley's representations included obtaining favorable rulings in state courts limiting the scope of indirect-purchaser standing in state antitrust actions. 

Mr. Fredley's practice also includes privacy, defamation, and media-related matters.  Mr. Fredley has served as plaintiff's counsel in both defamation and privacy actions.  Mr. Fredley was a member of the litigation team that represented Dr. Steven Hatfill in the matter of Hatfill v. John Ashcroft, a lawsuit against the Department of Justice and FBI stemming from a campaign of leaks in the FBI’s investigation of the 2001 anthrax attacks.  The case resulted in one of the largest Privacy Act settlements in history and Dr. Hatfill’s full exonerations.

Mr. Fredley graduated magna cum laude from George Mason University School of Law where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the George Mason Law Review.  Mr. Fredley served as a law clerk for the Honorable Frank W. Bullock, Jr. of the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina.
